Monitoring In NRM Regions

Birds Australia has recently embarked on a large-scale bird monitoring project which spans 10 different Natural Resource Management (NRM) regions, also known as Catchment Management Authorities in some states. This three year project is being funded through the Australian Government's Natural Heritage Trust. It seeks to seed a long-term, targeted, community-based bird monitoring program which will contribute to sustainable land management. The nature of the monitoring programs will vary greatly from region to region and the idea is for the project to examine topical management issues (e.g. grazing, fire, revegetation etc.) which are important within each region. Participation will basically involve bird watching at a series of selected priority sites - often at some great birding spots.

If you live in one of the selected regions (see map) or intend travelling through them and would like to conduct surveys, we would like to hear from you. You can register your interest in this project by contacting Chris Sanderson at Birds Australia's National Office on 9347 0757 or via c.sanderson @ birdsaustralia.com.au. We will be able to provide you with maps and details of where our priority sites are and keep you updated on the project.
